Now that sBo is entering it’s 4th year, I can accurately predict room organizing trends based on the season. Spring and Summer are great for garages, Fall is popular for basements and playrooms, and Winter is a natural fit for kitchens and closets.

As Mother Nature forces us to spend time inside during the winter months, we find ourselves staring our clutter directly in the eye-which is never a pretty sight.

The question becomes what are you going to do about it?” In my opinion, you have 2 choices: you can either ignore it, or conquer it.

Should if you choose option 2 (which I hope you do), the question then becomes are you equip with the strategies to see your project through from start to finish”?

Regardless of what project is on your “to-do” list this month, I’ve developed 3 action steps to help keep you moving in the right direction:

1.    Focus on one area. How many people do you know that start one project, get bored and move to something else?  Before you know it they are looking at a half dozen unfinished project and a mountain of clutter. Choose one area that you want to make over and complete it before moving onto something new.

2.    Plan first, buy second-Many people make the mistake of seeing a cool organizing system on TV, in a store, or online and think “that will work”. The trouble is, we often purchase items without giving thought to whether it is the right size or where we are going to put it.  Before you buy, make sure you have a plan of how to incorporate it into your space.

3.    Take a picture-If you’ve ever thumbed through a magazine or are addicted to Pinterest, this tip is right up your alley.  Use a photo as a guideline to keep you on task. Having a visual image helps you to envision what your space will look like once you cross the finish line.

So while you wait to see if Punxsutawney Phil will see his shadow, you may as well conquer some clutter so you can enjoy your home while you’re nestled inside it.
