A 30 Day Guide to a Complete Bedroom Closet Transformation
New Year, means a new bedroom closet right? There’s never been a better, more motivating time to focus your attention on your bedroom closet.
Reduce the amount of time you spend searching for the perfect outfit to wear by transforming your bedroom closet completely. Organized Living has compiled an easy to follow, 30 day guide – broken down into 4 steps that will make you wish you started sooner.
Step 1: Purge Your Closet
The first step is to take everything out of your closet – clothes, shoes, jewelry, purses, accessories, etc. and place them into three piles: keep, trash, or donate. Having three piles will keep you organized and keep the process moving faster. Be ruthless when placing your items into the piles. If you haven’t worn a blouse in over two years, it’s time to get rid of it.
Once you’ve separated all your items, toss the trash pile and take your gently used items to a local charity or thrift store.
Step 2: Take Inventory
Focus on what’s left. Take inventory of your belongings and use our Clothing Storage Guide for average measurements. These calculations will help determine how much space you’ll need for hanging, shelving, and accessories. Take note of what’s important to you as this will help you design the perfect bedroom closet. For example, if you have a lot of shoes – more shelving should be at the top of your priority list. Once you’ve totaled up your clothes and belongings, you’ll be able to more effectively design and organize.
Step 3: Design Your Closet
Now’s the fun part – designing your dream closet! Focus your time on designing your bedroom closet with our easy to use online Design Tool. One of the best features of the Design Tool is the Closet Libraries which allows you to choose from custom generated closet designs based on any dimension you enter. No designing needed! Watch our How-To-Video below and check out our Design Tool Guide to get started.
Don’t forget to take down your old closet system! There’s a good chance when you remove it, holes will be left. Repair the holes with spackle. Once the spackle is dry, sand down the excess for a smooth surface. Make sure the walls are clean and primed before you paint. Tip: Choose a paint that brightens up the space and is a reflection of your style!
Step 4: Install Your Closet
freedomRail is just as easy to install as it is to design! However, if you’d rather have a professional do it, you can find your nearest installing dealer by simply typing in your zip code.
After your closet has been installed, now all you have to do is put your items back in your brand new closet! We recommend placing like items together and separating them by color. You will no longer have to stare at the hundreds of pieces you have and think “I have nothing to wear.” You’ll be able to find exactly what you need in seconds.
In just 30 days you were able to completely transform your bedroom closet. Trust us, life is so much easier when you have outfits that you are confident in wearing and are easily accessible. It’s all thanks to the freedomRail adjustable closet system!
